Violence has many faces
Domestic violence takes place primarily between adults who are in a marital or non-marital partnership or other (kinship) relationships. In Germany every fourth woman is a victim of domestic violence. The exercise and the preservation of power and control over another person plays an important role.
The forms of violence can be very different:
- Physical violence

- Psychological violence
Threats, committing acts of violence to themselves, the partner or children, children as leverage (prohibition of contact), insults, humiliation in public, constant control of any actions in everyday life, forced marriage, death threats ...
- Social violence
Prohibition and control of contacts, locking up, prohibition of contact with family and friends, bullying ...
- Sexual Violence
Sexual harassment, coercion to sexual acts (attempted ) rape, sexual abuse of wards ...
- Financial violence
Refusal or allocation of money, controlling spending and finance, no access to account, prohibiting of employment or forced employment ...
- Stalking
Harassment like unwanted phone calls day and night, threatening letters, spying and persecution at work and at home ...
